Lifespan of LED fluorescent lamps

The lifetime of LEDs using the example of LED fluorescent lamps

  • Theoretically, i. if everything is processed properly, LED fluorescent lamps almost do not break.
  • The LED itself is hardly limited in its durability.
  • However, the LEDs are controlled by passive components, which are subject to a natural durability.
  • For example, even good capacitors dry out after about 60,000 operating hours.

What else has a negative effect on the LED life?

  •     Heat (too little heat dissipation at the bulb)
  •     too much power (too high LED current to get a lot of light out)
  •     Voltage peaks (usually in the power grid)
  •     Unclean power grids (phase shifts, installation errors etc.)

What has a positive effect on the LED lifetime

  •     cold
  •     constant mains voltage
  •     a "clean" power grid
  •     good, durable passive components

Where should you not use an LED?

  •     blast furnaces
  •     glass industry
  •     sauna
  •     Bakery in the heat area
  •     Cowsheds (ammonia problem)

Where is the use of LEDs recommended?

  •     Cold stores (the light is immediately available in full brightness)
  •     Wherever the classic T8 tube was used and "normal" conditions prevail, a change makes sense

Evaluation of LED life by standards

For lifetime evaluation, the LM80, TM21, LM79 standards have been introduced.
From the standard LM80 + TM21 the new standard L70 results.
The aim of the L70 standard is to determine the time from which a light loss of 30% occurs at the LED.
The standard LM80 is purely related to the LED
